Comida de Bebé Site & App

Project Narrative
As the premier resource for baby food in Portugal, the existing WordPress site struggled to handle high traffic volumes and lacked the specialized utility required for a daily parenting tool. The objective was to create a seamless, cross-platform experience that could manage a massive food database, complex user accounts, and real-time food analysis.
The Solution
The project replaced the rigid legacy structure with a modern CMS and a high-performance mobile app, introducing several advanced features:
OpenFood API Integration: A core utility that uses a barcode scanner to provide instant nutritional metrics. By pulling data from the OpenFood API, the app helps parents identify ultra-processed foods and understand nutritional labels specifically in the context of infant health.
Comprehensive Food Glossary: A database of thousands of individual foods, each with specific "food metrics" such as choking hazards, allergen info, and the appropriate age for introduction.
Dynamic Recipe & Menu Engine: A large, searchable recipe database integrated with a customizable daily menu planner. Parents can schedule meals for the entire week based on their child's specific dietary needs.
Smart Shopping Lists: An automated tool that generates shopping lists directly from the selected menus and recipes, streamlining the transition from digital planning to physical grocery shopping.
Multi-Tier Subscription Model: Implementation of different account types and subscription levels, allowing the brand to monetize premium content, specialized meal plans, and advanced tracking features.
Technical & Design Strategy
The transition to a modern CMS allowed for better SEO performance and faster load times for the extensive article and recipe library. For the mobile experience, React Native was chosen to ensure a "native feel" on both platforms with a single codebase, facilitating rapid updates.
The UI design focuses on "parental ergonomics," using a clean, soft aesthetic that remains functional. Large touch targets and intuitive navigation make it easy for parents to scan a product or check a recipe while managing a kitchen or holding a child.
Results
The migration successfully transformed Comida de Bebé from a simple blog into a vital health and logistics tool. The app has become a daily companion for thousands of Portuguese parents, providing the peace of mind that comes with data-driven nutritional guidance and efficient meal management.
