Vodafone Paredes de Coura

Project Narrative
The Challenge The remote location of the Taboão river beach creates specific engineering constraints:
Challenging Connectivity: While Vodafone ensures coverage, the sheer density of users in a rural valley requires an "offline-first" approach to ensure data remains accessible.
Extended Duration: Unlike 3-day city festivals, Paredes de Coura lasts over a week for campers, requiring features that support daily life (transport, food, community).
High-Density Schedules: Managing a massive lineup across various stages with a focus on discovery of new, emerging artists.
The Solution
Offline-First Synchronization
Using the Bondlayer framework on React Native, I implemented a robust local storage strategy. All lineup data, maps, and schedules were cached locally on the device.
Background Sync: The app checked for delta-updates (small changes) whenever a stable connection was found, ensuring the user always had the latest info without draining battery or data.
Performance: Even in the middle of a crowd, the UI remained snappy and responsive because it didn't rely on real-time API calls for core navigation.
Custom "Coura" Features
In collaboration with Vodafone, we developed features tailored to the festival's unique culture:
Vodafone "Boleias" (Ridesharing): A custom module to facilitate car-pooling to the remote village of Paredes de Coura, promoting sustainability.
The "Vodafone Music Radio" Integration: Allowing users to stream the festival's official radio station directly within the app.
Interactive Maps: Specialized maps highlighting camping zones, river access points, and essential services for long-term stays.
Remote Dynamic Updates (OTA)
The "Coura" spirit is spontaneous. Our Over-The-Air (OTA) update system allowed the festival team to push last-minute surprise gigs, safety alerts about river conditions, or changes in transport schedules instantly, ensuring campers were always in the loop without needing an App Store update.
The ImpactCommunity Trust: Delivered a stable, reliable tool for one of the most demanding and loyal fanbases in the festival world.
Brand Alignment: Seamlessly integrated Vodafone's services into the "nature-first" aesthetic of the festival.
Technical Resilience: Successfully managed high-traffic loads in a geographically challenging environment, proving the versatility of the Bondlayer architecture.
Technical Highlights
