Vodafone Rock in Rio

Project Narrative
The Challenge Rock in Rio presents a scale unlike any other event in Portugal:
Massive User Density: Hundreds of thousands of attendees across multiple days, all demanding real-time schedule data and social features simultaneously.
Corporate Rigor: Working with Vodafone means meeting the highest standards for security, data privacy, and brand alignment.
Complex Infrastructure: Orchestrating a system that integrates with Vodafone’s internal marketing APIs and high-volume brand activation tools.
The Solution
Mission-Critical Architecture
The app was built using the Bondlayer framework on React Native, optimized specifically for high-concurrency. We implemented a "Performance-First" strategy, using aggressive edge-caching and optimized JSONB queries in the PostgreSQL backend to ensure that even with 50,000+ concurrent requests, the API response time remained under 200ms.
Custom Brand Activations (Vodafone Innovation)
We developed bespoke, high-engagement modules tailored to Vodafone’s marketing strategy:
Real-Time Contests: Integrated "Fastest Finger" contests and digital queues for Vodafone’s famous brand activations on-site.
Interactive Mapping: High-fidelity maps with geofenced notifications to guide users through the "City of Rock."
Live-Streaming Integration: Seamlessly embedding Vodafone's live festival feeds into the native mobile environment for those watching from home.
Over-the-Air (OTA) Resilience
In the fast-moving environment of Rock in Rio, the schedule is never final. Using our proprietary Remote Update system, we empowered the Vodafone team to push lineup changes, safety alerts, and flash-sale notifications to every device in the park in real-time, bypassing the 24-48 hour App Store approval process.
